Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at the Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor when she was six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing as well as dancing, and also acting. When she was ten, she had performed and taken as the main character in several Stagecoach shows and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford Theatre instructor. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions Emma and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first film on the screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. The film broke records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales as well as being the most-grossing feature in 2001. The film received praise from reviewers, and so were the performances of its three actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's performance "amazing". Emma was later awarded five prizes for her performance in the film.
